Chuckie Egg Java

Click here to play Chuckie Egg Java!!

Chuckie Egg Java

This is a Java Applet conversion of the classic Sinclair ZX Spectrum game Chuckie Egg. I wrote this game to practice my Java programming skills while I was unemployed after moving back to England from New Zealand. It is a complete re-write rather than a Java Spectrum emulator, and none of the code is based on the original code in any way. The game is still under construction, and may never get completed, but if anyone is interested, just email me for a copy of the source code.

If anyone has any objections to this game being on this site, please contact me.

Hi Rich,

I installed the Java Runtime plug-in but Chuckie Egg still doesn't work. Nothing seems to load and the screen remains grey. A message at the bottom of the screen apears when the mouse is in a certain position. It reads, "load: class EggApplet not found". Do you know why it's not working?

Cheers
Jon

It DOES work if the Java runtime engine is installed properly.  I've even got it to work under Linux. If it's coming up with load: class EggApplet not found then JRE is not installed properly. Talk to Tim as he has got it working I think.

A good idea Shocked I didn't write Chuckie to be small - but the specs of the board seem to take it!

Chuckie is:

Class files: 116kB

Total (sound/levels/gfx): 324kB

As long as 512 kB is enough RAM you'll be sweet - and I dunno on that one. What kind of display were you thinking of?

I wrote for the speccy that has a screen of 32x22 (256x192 pixels) but I guess you could change the graphics easy enough.

Anyway, if you are interested I'll post the source code. It's based on this crazy state machine I implemented, and is a bit hard to understand without the state diagrams, but if you get it going and show me, I might be interested enough to scan them for you  Tongue

I was going to just do it as an embedded java webpage to test out the TCP/IP Stack, web server etc., But my kit is a cut down version so only has 128Kb SRAM and currently only 256Kb internal flash. so I might just be ably to fit it on with out any graphics or sound, ( what a great game you could move a black square around on a black backround and listen to the silent noises as you crash into other black squres Wink )

I've got a 2MB flash chip comming in the next couple of weeks so that my change things a bit. Mostlikely I'll just build it into an internet radio or something. Any way I'll send pictures of last projects in a couple of weeks when I've got my "Music Fist" player finished.
